What Are Your Technological New Year's Resolutions?

I resolve to not use my email box as a primary CRM (customer relationship management) database and make better use the one that I am supposed to employ when managing my contacts. I also resolve to keep to a regular podcasting regiment and make sure that my VOX Daily blog postings at Voices.com are as they say, "daily"! With so much technology around me, for sanity's sake, I resolve to get out of my office at least once each day to enjoy the fresh air and social network more in the classical sense than simply online. I hereby challenge other web companies and entrepreneurs to do the same.

Back up your computer files

Losing one file on your computer can be annoying and inconvenient; losing all the information on your computer can be catastrophic. If you haven't given any thought to backing up your computer drives, you may want to consider doing so. Information on your computer can be lost in many ways. Experiencing a power surge or outage, lightening, a child playing on the keyboard or simply equipment failure are just a few of the causes.Your first step will be to decide what to backup. A good start would be to have a "laundry" list of the files you consider to be important. You will find that this list will also be valuable if you need to recover a single lost or damaged file. Some recommended files to backup would be financial information, family photos, personal projects, email and email addresses, your Internet bookmarks, any software that has been paid for and downloaded from the Internet, music downloads, business forms and letters, your .com web site, in reality, anything you do not want to loose or cannot replace.Next you will need to decide on a method to store this information.

phpBB3 takes giant strides from predecessor

As the world gets smaller, security threats and spam seem only to grow. PhpBB is the open source Internet Forum package that underlies a majority of the online forums on the Internet and its creators take their motto "creating communities" very seriously. All communities need to interact freely and safely, and although a long time coming, the latest release, phpBB3, has several increased security measures, as well as enhanced collaboration features and mobile optimisation.

Computerworld Australia catches up with some key players behind the software: Henry Sudhof, Adam Reyher and Meik Sievertsen. They discuss the development process they use, the latest phpBB release and what they are doing to address the growing wave of spam and security threats.

Is there any way to guage how many people use phpBB?

Henry Sudhof: For Open Source software that is a very difficult question to answer.

New Hampshire campaign focuses on independents

We have some very fine presidential candidates who would make good presidents. But none of the top Presidential candidates directly support HR 676, the only true Universal Health Care plan. So I am supporting Hillary Clinton. She is the only top candidate that has ever actually fought for universal health care before.

I have enormous admiration, and respect for Hillary Clinton. She fought a pitched battle against overwhelming odds back in 1993. To prevent this disastrous health care crisis that is now devastating the American people, and America. She fought so hard for the American people that she risk almost completely destroying her husbands presidency. I haven't forgotten her heroic effort. If any Presidential hopeful for universal health care deserves my support, it's her.

Buck & New Dawg: Can the Patriots bounce back from the "Eli Ender" in ...

Can Tom Brady & Co. recover from this Super Bowl XLII loss to the Giants? Or have we just witnessed Mike Tyson lose to Buster Douglas?

NEW DAWG: Yes, even the Baltimore Colts came back to win Super Bowl V. The Patriots will need to fix their defense and learn to run the ball more. I expect them to still be a contender and even get back to a Super Bowl under Tom Brady.

BUCK: This is exactly Tyson-Douglas all over again. I think the Patriots have everybody hoodwinked into thinking, Oh, but these are Patriots. The problem, Newy, these Pats poured everything into their quest for perfection, and Sunday nights Eli Ender will hang over them next season like one of Belichicks old gray sweatshirts left out in the rain. Lest we forget, six of the last seven Super Bowl losers failed to even make the playoffs the next year.

Dixon Wants Out of Toronto

From the law offices of McAfee & Taft, a letter dated Feb. 14 was submitted to Seattle city attorney Thomas A. Carr, highlighting the three scenarios of the June 16 court case. In statement No. 5 of the letter, the Professional Basketball Club makes the offer: "The third scenario is a settlement. PBC is willing to offer a one-time payment to the City that will (a) satisfy the anticipated rental revenue sharing payments and admissions taxes of the final two years of the KeyArena lease and; (b) provide the City sufficient funds to pay the $26.5 million principal due on the KeyArena debut as it matures."The letter then states that Professional Basketball Club will offer the city of Seattle a payment of $7,265,286 to cover the final two years of rent at KeyArena and a payment of $19,305,766 to cover the current estimated bond due for the previous repairs to KeyArena.

Crackdown on 'upskirting' and 'downblousing'

ELEANOR HALL: A national crackdown on voyeuristic photos and their publication is one of the issues being tackled at the meeting in Melbourne today of Australia's Attorneys-General.

The nation's top law makers are considering how to deal with the problem of "upskirting" and "downblousing", in which mobile phone cameras and pen cameras are used to photograph unsuspecting women.

Outlawing the publication of photos, which don't have the subject's consent, is also being considered.

In Melbourne, Samantha Donovan reports.

SAMANTHA DONOVAN: Victorian Attorney-General Rob Hulls is urging the states and Commonwealth to come up with a national approach to these problems.

ROB HULLS: The practice of what's known as "up skirting", where people can use mobile phone cameras or pen cameras to take photos under people's clothing without their knowledge, and for inappropriate purposes.
