Googlebot is like a dream which knows us all , , and soul. ATHLETICS: Former Olympic ace inspires students
FORMER Commonwealth Games gold medalist and Olympic athlete Tony Jarrett spent an afternoon in an Enfield classroom last week to pass on tips to sports students. Jarrett, who competed in the 110m hurdles at the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000, Atlanta 1996, Barcelona 1992 and Seoul 1988, was born in Enfield. And the former sprint ace, who won medals at the World, European and Commonwealth Games, returned to his home town to give a talk to sports students at Enfield College. The 39-year-old would probably have enjoyed even more success in his career had it not been for GB teammate Colin Jackson, with his only individual gold medal coming at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. Jarrett, who is now an athletics coach, shared his experiences as a professional athlete with the students at the Hertford Road college, as well as running an exclusive practical coaching session.
Read the complete text! Rochester's Hills' State of the City address
Good Evening. I want to welcome you to the 2008 State of the City Address and thank you for the opportunity to update the community on the status and condition of our fine City. I want to personally thank all of you for attending this event in our newest facility and sincerely thank all of the members of the Department of Public Services who have helped us put this evening together. We have never held the address outside of city hall but I felt it would be a great opportunity to showcase our newest facility to the people who own it, our residents. This required a tremendous amount of effort from a large number of city employees and I sincerely appreciate it. Don't complain though, if you think this is different, next year I want to hold the State of the City -- underwater! I also want to recognize some very important people in the room tonight.
What I Learned in Jail Last Night
He's the only what who really believes in what we do, though," the lady cop sighed. They transported us to the precinct in the Canal Street subway station. Still handcuffed, they pulled the bobby pins out of my hair, the shoelaces out of my shoes, took my backpack and all belongings into custody, and removed my belt. My nose was running from not being able to reach my face for two hours, and my makeup was smeared from lying facedown in the police van. I fit right in! They put me in a cell and slammed the door. My cellmate was a teenage-looking, chubby goth girl with holes in her tights who scratched herself compulsively. We said nothing to each other; meanwhile, the guys in the two cells next to us were practically having a party. They'd gotten some guards to buy them Cokes and were hollering and yelling about "we'll be outta here by 3 a.m., no problem." They were in for the crimes of "outstretch" and turnstile-jumping.
January 2008
My colleague Andy Revkin reported in December, at his Dot Earth blog, that the discoverers of the jawbone told him there was “no threat of outright extinction within a century or more" and that “this finding reinforces the idea that they can endure." More good news for the polar bears: sea ice extent has returned to "near normal" levels after last summer's "record" thaw, and the Northern Hemisphere has more snow cover right now than at any time in the last decade. New York In Autumn
But there's more to New York than just shopping to die for! During the festive season the whole city becomes a fairy tale of extravagant delights as the locals gear up for ‘The Holidays'. The lights are fantastic – literally entire tress are lit up in white lights – festive sculptures are dotted around the streets and the annual Christmas Tree and Neapolitan Baroque Crèche at the Metropolitan Museum, one of the best museums in the world, is dusted off from 20 November–6 January 2008 and is truly unmissable! Basically, it's a vivid 18th-century Neapolitan crèche scene — embellished with a profuse array of diminutive, lifelike attendant figures and silk-robed angels hovering above — that adorns the candlelit spruce. There's a lighting ceremony every Friday and Saturday at 7pm.
Univision Battle With Televisa Places Programs in Jeopardy
A long-running feud between Univision Communications and the Mexican broadcaster that provides most of its programming is headed for a showdown in a federal court in Los Angeles. If Univision loses, it could see many of its prime-time shows yanked. While a dispute over royalty payments is the source of the current dispute, tensions between the two companies date back to bad blood between Univisions former chief, A. Jerrold Perenchio, and the late Emilio Azcarraga Milmo, who felt he got a bad deal in 1992 when the two men negotiated the original contract. If the Mexican company, Grupo Televisa, wins and pulls its programming, Univisions enterprise value could be chopped by more than $1 billion. The lawsuit centers on a program license agreement, or PLA, between Televisa, the dominant broadcaster in Mexico, and L.A.s Univision, the dominant Spanish-language TV network in the U.S.

Google takes a swipe at OOXML
Updated Google has slammed Microsoft's Office Open XML (OOXML) format as being "insufficient and unnecessary". The internet giant's open source programs manager Zaheda Bhorat said yesterday on Google's official blog that Redmond's attempts to convince the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) to adopt OOXML as the international format should be ignored. .
Boating isn't all plain sailing
Taking to the waterways in luxury floating hotels is more popular than ever, as Brian Johnston finds. WHEN Jerome K. Jerome wrote the charming novel Three Men In A Boat in 1889, it sparked a fashion for rowing holidays on the Thames. These days, rivers are still attracting travellers, though in rather more style. Recently there has been a surge in new luxury river cruises and new itineraries. Indeed, tour companies can barely keep up with the demand. a.yellow:link {color: #FFCC00} a.yellow:visited {color: #FFCC00} td.celltwo { font-size: 12px; padding-top: 25px; padding-bottom: 5px; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 10px; color: white; font-style: arial; } td.cellone { padding-bottom: 5px; padding-right: 10px; bgcolor: white } .
