Silk painting lures creative spirits to Westerly

She also teaches Watercolor 101 and a dream interpretation workshop that she says is popular. For silk painting, participants work on a 10-inch round piece of silk in a metal frame that they can use later as a sun catcher. For the workshop she uses silk paint but when she teaches classes in her Cumberland, R.I., studio, they work on 8- by 54-inch scarves using silk dye. The distinction Kline points out is that the paint sits on top of the surface while the dye permeates the fabric and is later heat set."The colors in fabric painting are so vibrant, the most vibrant medium I’ve ever used," says Kline. This workshop is ideal for someone who is thinking about silk painting. She says it is a great introduction. The silk is the canvas and using a "resist" the artist creates an outline and then applies the paint.

Automated Killer Robots ‘Threat to Humanity’: Expert

If you murdered your neighbor and stole his property could that be described as 'winning". When you start out with an evil premise there is no way to turn it respectable. I am disturbed at the continuing dehumanization of this murdering. The same stuff they use on them can be used on us. Most of the people they are killing are innocent. They do have the right to defend themselves against imperial occupiers. Anyone who opposes them they call terrorists. Are you a terrorist? The real terorists are the ones who launched this illegal war based on lies.

Facebook, a Marketer's Friend

Facebook Inc.'s social-networking site is the nerve center of Bryce Gruber's business.

The 23-year-old owner of IntenCity Global, a five-person marketing and public-relations firm in New York, holds court daily at her profile page, bantering with young fashionistas via postings on her page's public forum, or Wall, and steering them to parties she hosts for clients in the beauty and fashion industry.

Band energizes crowd

Incommunicado recently played a Cherry Darling show in February with bands Jena Berlin and The Warmingtons.

"We really like playing in State College, and college towns in general," Warmbrodt said. "If we could, we would play college towns more often, but we just don't have the connections."

Playing with Incommunicado will be Lose The Name, a punk-rock quartet from Tyrone, Pa.

"This is our first time playing with Incommunicado, and we are super happy about it," bass player Brad Davis said.

This weekend's performance coincides with the release of Lose The Name's five-track EP, Fells Point, released through Take Over Digital.

Lose The Name worked with producer Paul Leavitt who has worked with other acts like Senses Fail.

Getting entrepreneurial in 2008

For the past several years, I've run a consulting and market research practice called Enterprise Insight, where I've focused on CIOs and understanding their key business issues. I've spent lots of time meeting with CIOs, designing and moderating CIO thought leadership events and panels, and generally trying to get "inside the mind of the CIO." I help CIOs network with each other and share insights, and help the technology community understand what's driving CIOs' decisions. So if you need someone to fly to Vegas and tell your salespeople what CIOs really care about, give me a call.

My second venture is very different, but equally energizing. It's a new Web site on antiques and collecting, which have been a passion of mine for several years. The goal of the site, CollectorsWeekly.com, is to be a showcase for " the best of antiques and collecting," a place where you can browse great antiques and collectibles in hundreds of categories and learn about them.

Nobel Laureate Estimates Wars’ Cost at More Than $3 Trillion

It is also an investment in the future safety and security of Americans and our vital national interests. $3 trillion? What price does Joe Stiglitz put on attacks on the homeland that have already been prevented? Or doesn't his slide rule work that way?"

Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., a decorated Marine Corp colonel and Vietnam veteran, welcomed the effort by Stiglitz and Bilmes to quantify how much the wars will cost taxpayers.

"It's astounding that here we are about to mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, and this administration still refuses to acknowledge the long-term costs of the war in Iraq," he said.

By any estimate, the Bush administration's predictions in March 2003 of a self-financing war have proved to be wildly inaccurate. Stiglitz cites operational spending to date of $646 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and, working off estimates from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, presumes that spending on these wars over the next decade probably will amount to another $913 billion.
